Bijapur Sports Academy bags two gold medals in state-level school archery

Raipur: Bijapur Sports Academy bagged two gold medals in the compound round on the very first day of state-level school archery organized in Bilaspur.
Archery players Shanu Thomas and Ashok Taati groomed in government’s run sports academy in Bijapur district received the gold medal in their first participation in the state-level competition.
Within a year after the establishment of the sports academy in the Naxal-affected area of the state, it has already started establishing a new record in the field of sports. The academy bagged as many as 56 medals this year, including 19 gold, 20 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Recently, Bijapur Sports academy trained archer Santosh Kachalam got 295 out of 300 points in National Archery Competition and secured 26th Rank raising the visibility of the government-run sports academy at the national level.
Bijapur Sports Academy started providing training in archery, football, basketball, volleyball, softball, badminton, judo-karate and swimming. Besides the academy has also recruited National Institute of Sports (NIS) coaches to train the players.
The academy is conceptualized to encourage the youngsters of the Maoist hotbed region of the state, to nature their sports talent and to give them a direction in life and a much-needed exposure.
