Raipur:Moving into the 7th day of the protest by Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU)students saw the endurance of the Vice Chancellor being broken by the students’ movement that had preceeded. It may be noted that the Supreme Court’s decision of reinstating Singh as VC of HNLU paved way for a massive protest by the students.
Resorting to a last ditch effort of hunger strike around 25 members of the SBA after proper medical examination started the fast with the support of their fellow mates,the single point agenda being resignation of Sukhpal Singh. According to students Singh allegedly was engulfed in corruption as he did not provide grants for proper research and instead siphoned off funds through unnecessary construction across the University campus.Even cases of sexual harassment were overlooked by him. In support of the students’ cause the colleges wore a deserted look from morning as it was mostly closed,earlier too the bar council affirmed their support to SBA and many came out in the open for their solidarity with them. The students did not leave any page unturned in venting their protest inspite of the deteriorating health condition of a few at the end of the day,District Collector and Superitendent of Police were informed about the ground situation at the University .
Singh showed no signs of remorse or sympathy choosing to remain indifferent towards the whole incident. Intimidating notices were issued to the students thrice this week but the deadlock continued as neither backed off.
Late into the evening news came in that after a turbulent week the agitating students’ finally settled their scores with Singh who resigned from the post of VC .
