Chhattisgarh Times Raipur: Senior leader Karuna Shukla filed the Assembly election 2018 nomination paper today on Tuesday. Karuna Shuka who is a Congress candidate from Rajnandgaon Assembly constituency is in fray against Chhattisgarh Chief minister Dr Raman Singh.
Despite absence of all the senior leaders of the state being in Delhi at this time, when Mrs. Shukla left for Rajnandgaon District Election Office to file nomination, there were thousands of people with her.
Karuna Shukla is a niece of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. She represented the Janjgir constituency of Chhattisgarh and was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She lost the 2009 elections from Korba to Charan Das Mahant of the Indian National Congress.
She resigned from the BJP on October 25, 2013 citing that the party was “allegedly under the grip of power politics”.
After having ended her 32-year-long association with BJP, on February 27, 2014, she joined Indian National Congress and contested 2014 Loksabha election from Bilaspur constituency in Chhattisgarh. She was defeated BJP’s Lakhan Lal Sahu by a margin of 176,436 votes
