Bilaspur:September 28th 2018 saw democracy unfurl it’s true colours as Bilaspur witnessed a mammoth drive towards 100 percent vote casting in the forthcoming elections. An estimated 2 lakh voters from the whole district took part in this one of a kind mega event in signing of affidavits stating absolute voting in a non compulsive,willing manner in the upcoming assembly election.
The event took the whole district by storm and the District Election Office is leaving no loose end in vying to register it in The Guinness Book of World Records. The control room set up in the Zila Panchayat Building kept receiving signed affidavits late into the evening. All village panchayats,nagar panchayats and municipal corporations comprising the 7 assembly seats of Bilaspur were taken into consideration,consequently 898 centres was structured for this purpose. A subtle and hassle free process was ensured with voter identity card being the only requirement.
Bilaspur Municipal Corporation undertook the tedious job of making a framework of 68 schools,colleges and community centres where the process was initiated at 10am and continued till 3pm,with Bilaspur city seeing a staggering 10000 people signing the same.An estimated 2000 voters were present at the late Lakhiram Memorial Auditorium.
District Collector P.Dayanand emphasised the need for this awareness campaign of total voting to erase all fear or hesitation out off the voters’ mind thus explaining the need of a free and fair poll process in the world’s largest democracy.
