BIS Raipur conducts raid at drinking water manufacturing company in Somajhitiya village of Rajnandgaon

Chhattisgarh Times Raipur: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Raipur Branch Office conducted a Search and Seizure operation at M/s Nandani Drinking Water, Village Somajhitiya in Rajnandagon district on Friday. A BIS spokesperson informed that during the operation it was found that M/s Nandani Drinking Water was manufacturing and selling Packaged Drinking Water and Packaged Natural Mineral Water misusing the ISI Monogram on the product without having a valid license from the Bureau. Secret information about the above illegal activity was received by BIS Raipur and based on this information V Gopinath, Sc. F & Head, BIS Raipur constituted a team comprising of A.K. Maharana, Kaushelendra Kumar, and Smith Kumar to carry out the Search & Seizure operation. With the assistance from local police, the operation was carried out during which large quantity of water produced by M/s Nandani Drinking Water was seized which included water filled in 1 Litre PET bottle and 250ml PE pouches. The proprietor of the firm Pushpa Sinha and her husband Daniram Sinha have been found violating the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016. For such violation, the BIS Act 2016 provides for a penalty of Rs. 2 Lakhs – which can go up to Rs. 5 Lakhs, or imprisonment up to 2 years or both. BIS has been carrying out such Search & Seizure operation to detect misuse of ISI Mark and protect the interest of common consumers.
